The roll-out of various emerging wireless services has created the need for the next generation wireless networks (5G/6G) to provide functions of sensing, computing and communication over the same radio spectrum. Moreover the emergence of in-network computing paradigm calls for the tight coupling, allocation and optimization of both communications and computing resources, as well as for the efficient, reliable and secure end-to-end resource and applications orchestration over programmable infrastructure spanning across the compute continuum (i.e., Cloud-to-Edge-to-IoT). Our research focuses on the mathematical modeling and joint optimization of both communications and computing resources towards providing energy efficient resource management solutions, as well as on the introduction of automation and distributed intelligence towards providing smart network management and orchestration platforms, powered by 5G/6G enabling technologies, AI technologies and federated learning.
