A smart city is defined as a place where traditional networks and services are made more efficient with the use of digital solutions for the benefit of its inhabitants and business. Examples of relevant applications include: traffic management, smart grids, smart tourism and culture, video surveillance, public safety, smart parking, environmental monitoring, etc. Next Generation IoT will enable and will be enabled by, current and future advances in several emerging technologies such as 5G/6G, cloud/edge-native computing, tactile Internet, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), presenting a tremendous potential for development of solutions applicable to smart cities. Our research focuses on tackling aspects associated with the convergence, efficiency, scalability, openness and interoperability of emerging solutions, as well as on designing and executing realistic use cases including smart campus, smart driving, smart grid, smart tourism etc..
