Network management aims at providing network administrators with network management tools, protocols and processes to empower optimized network operations. Network management refers to the planning, design and control of the network operation towards optimizing the process of orchestrating network traffic and data flow. The primary tasks of network management include configuration management, traffic monitoring, and security management, the latter being responsible for protecting the network from unauthorized access or attacks. Our research focuses on the design and implementation of advanced network management solutions (both model/policy driven and data-driven), applicable in software defined environments and virtualized infrastructures, as well as on the development of malware/attack propagation models, and effective and efficient intrusion/anomaly detection systems.
