ABOUT NETMODEThe NETwork Management & Optimal DEsign Laboratory (NETMODE) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is actively involved in R&D programmes sponsored by Greek and European organisations. Its interests span areas of communication networks with emphasis on planning, design and management of distributed data communications (e.g. evolution planning towards high speed networks, interim communication solutions, models and requirements for services and infrastructure, methods for flow/congestion control in multimedia environments , asynchronous video transfer and traffic models). It employes faculty members on a part time basis, eleven research associates and several project students. Its infrastructure includes a LAN with workstations connected to the vast University computing and communications resources. The laboratory has an extended S/W library of packages for network management and network simulation, CASE tools, RDBMS's, object oriented as well as conventional programming languages and two open and user friendly applications developed at NETMODE: the Hermes Network Design (HND) optimisation platform and the Cerberus Network Management System (CNMS), which are used for experimental and educational purposes inside NTUA and on the international Internet to which all NETMODE systems are connected. NETMODE is closely affiliated with the Institute for Communications and Computer Systems of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at NTUA. NETMODE leads the University effort to establish state-of-the-art integrated voice and data networking in the NTUA campus ,which was designed and supervised by members of the NETMODE Lab and has been repeatedly presented in Greece and abroad as an example of advanced Academic Network providing high quality facilities to support both teaching and research. Services that are currently offered by the Integrated (voice & data) communication network of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) are:
