The NETwork Management & Optimal DEsign Laboratory (
) is established within the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). It is also affiliated with the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) at NTUAand the Institute of Accelerating Systems & Applications (IASA) of the University of Athens (UoA) and NTUA.
NETMODE supports undergraduate and graduate teaching & research in Distributed Network/System Management including:
Modeling & simulation of queuing systems
Legacy & novel management architectures for high-speed optical communications
Wireless networks
Ad-hoc & sensor networks
Network security
Distributed storage & processing systems (Computational Grids)
Analysis & planning in deregulated telecommunications markets
NETMODE is actively involved in R&D projects sponsored by Greek and European Research Initiatives.
NETMODE hosts the PlanetLab Site for NTUA. PlanetLab is an international emulation testbed initiated by Princeton University. It consists of more than 800 nodes (dedicated Linux Servers) in more than 400 sites world-worldwide, creating an overlay network over the Internet for testing novel ideas on distributed applications and services.
