Special Track on "Emerging communications, networking and computing technologies for VANETs 2.0"

The technological advancements and the growing connectivity, storage, and sensing capabilities of vehicles, together with the new era of Internet of Things (IoT), are driving the evolution towards a new generation of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), not only aimed to provide safe and sustainable mobility, but also to support value-added and information-richer services to passengers and drivers, like environment sensing, cooperative/autonomous driving, mobile cloud computing. Some important steps have been made in resolving fundamental challenges and bring VANET technologies to life so far, in this special session we encourage the submission of original contributions that have not been published and are not currently under consideration elsewhere, describing more sophisticated solutions and recent developments in the areas of communications, networking and computing technologies for the new generation of VANETs and their applications.  

In this special session, we encourage the submission of papers from both the wireless communications/networking and the services and applications layer communities.


 Topics of Interest 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

 •   Vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-roadside, vehicle-to-pedestrian, vehicle-to-grid, vehicle-to-X communications
 •    Enhancements to the physical layer design for vehicular communications (e.g., propagation models, antennas, etc.)
 •    Medium access control protocols for vehicular communications
 •    Decentralized congestion control techniques
 •    DSRC, WAVE, IEEE 802.11p technologies
 •    Multi-channel and multi-radio (cognitive) communications
 •    Alternative communication technologies for VANETs (e.g., LTE-Direct, LTE-A, Li-Fi, etc.)
 •    In-vehicle communications
 •    Algorithms and protocols for data dissemination, processing, and aggregation in vehicular networks
 •    Emerging computing and networking paradigms for VANETs (e.g., mobile cloud computing, information-centric networking, vehicular social networks, etc.)
 •    Vehicular services and applications (e.g., mobile crowd sensing, cooperative/autonomous driving, green routing, video streaming, etc.)
 •    Internet of Vehicles architectures and services
 •    Security, privacy, dependability and trust in vehicular communications
 •    Experimental evaluation and field operational tests
